What a horrid horrid picture. My little webcam came in today, and I cant use it at all for streaming video because of the firewall here at work, so I am going to hook it up at home and see if it will do any better.  Posted by Hello

Another hurricane gone by

Three hurricanes in Central Florida, and all of them on the weekend.

It’s a conspiracy, I swear it!

Cancelled Crown Tournament, cancelled the tournament this last weekend, and despite the fact everyone else has gone home here at work, we here in our department are still here. Blinking hurricanes have no sense of timing. How about a nice Tuesday landfall for a change?

Well, on Saturday, figuring we had nothing else to do; we actually drove to the coast to take a look at the storm coming in. Got some good pictures too! It wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be, but, the winds were blowing at about 35 mph or so, maybe 40, enough for the sand to sting quite a bit, and enough to whip the waves into quite a lather.

We even say some surfers trying to get a ride, but they were not having much luck, the waves were to close together to actually get out to the good waves. They were swimming as hard as they could, but could not quite get out there.

So we returned home after hanging out and getting some good pictures of the waves, random birds, and silly surfers, and getting a surprise in the fact that Quizno’s was open (where we had lunch). We did not really need to batten down the hatches, because the windows were already taped, and the carport already was stashed away. The wind started blowing really hard late Sat. night, but the worst came Sunday morning through Sunday night. It wasn’t as bad as Charley, but almost. The tree in the back yard did fine, but this time the wind was blowing from as slightly different direction, and there was a limb that occasionally hit the house. The occasional *thud* was a bit disconcerting, but no damage to the house. We did keep power despite we seeing the occasional transformer flash like green lightning (with the accompanying boom), which was the greatest blessing; because other people here at work do not have power. Unfortunately with the power company’s resources stretched so thin, it will be awhile before power will be restored.

The good news (well for me) is that Martin will be in town on Tuesday, so I can try to get some kinks out of my new fighting stuff, but no good tournament practice for Crown… Assuming a hurricane is not going to blow crown away…

Cool Quote

Found a great quote today... Reminds me of Bush...

Weekend fun

Well, this weekend was a blast!

We started this weekend by going to the Florida Aquarium, which was an absolute blast. Not as big of an aquarium as I had hoped, but quite impressive none the less. They have a nice aviary/rainforest, an ok shark tank, a very impressive reef tank, and a lot of other cool stuff. Most of the pictures I took were off focus or washed out (using a different camera). After the Aquarium, we stopped by “the sunken gardens” and although it was fairly nice, Lu Gardens here in Orlando kicks its butt.

Sunday, after cleaning the bird cages, we went to Martins for some fighting…

Here the pictures below -

Rules for Fighting

Well, been looking through the Marshals handbook, and this weekend I am going to bring it with me to make sure the marshals actually know what they are talking about this weekend. What really, really bugs me is when a marshal wants to fail me on inspection on an item that is fine by the rules. So far I have been told my coif is not legal (yes it is, see Trimaris marshal’s Handbook, fighter section VI. A. 3. a) And that my shield arm under a heater needs to be armored (no it doesn’t, It just needs an elbow pad, see Trimaris marshal’s Handbook, fighter section VI. A. 6. b.). There is one thing that I am going to do this weekend to tweak the marshal’s a bit. I am just going to put strapping tape on my sword and leave it at that. Now most people think that duct tape is required on top of it, but according to the book, it just isn’t so… So, we will see how it will go this weekend. I do have to make myself a gorget, either tonight or tomorrow, but everything else should be fine. That and I would like to make a trigger for my sword, but I need a half gauntlet to use that instead the street hockey glove I use now…

Another bleeding Hurricane!?!?!?

Another week, another risk of a hurricane hitting us… Jeanne has done a little loop de loop out in the Atlantic and may very well hit Florida… Maybe… But at least it will be a weekday when it hits instead of the weekend. The main thing I have learned this year is that the weather service really doesn’t have quite a good grasp on the weather. Like this surprises me. With my luck, Jeanne will hit, and I will have to come to work anyway. My power at home will go down for a week, but power here at work will be completely unaffected.

At least it shouldn’t affect my plans this weekend… but one never knows…

Phoenix and I are going out and biking tonight, probably tracing the route that goes to her work so she knows where to go in the morning. I can’t wait; biking will help us both get in better shape.

Hawaii plans are slowly getting there. I am now looking for a deal so I can buy tickets. Waiting, looking… This will be spectacular vacation if we can pull it off…

More silly calls

Here are some more fun filled quotes I got from the phone today….

"I just wanted to call and tell you the internet is down for the entire library, and we are in a panic because we can’t work without it! Oh wait; it’s just the front desk. None of the staff can use it… Oh wait, it seems to be working now, never mind…"

Student: I just wanted to call and tell you I had to have my test reset by my instructor. I just wanted to tell you that…

Me: Ok, anything else for you?

Student: No, I just wanted you to know.

Me: Ok, Thanks! Have a nice day!

I am really itching to get out and fight in another tournament. With all the stuff I have learned recently, I really want to put practical use to it. This weekend is a small tourney, and I want to use it as a warm up for the champion’s tournament at crown. I can’t wait!

Blinking customers!

Today is the day of the angry and/or stupid customer

After me answering “(whatever) helpdesk, this is Neal, can I have your name please?”

“Is this really necessary?”

Me: Hey you called me buddy…

“Are you in Florida? Because if you are, I don’t want to talk to you.”

Me: That’s ok, it’s obvious you’re an idiot, and I don’t want to talk to you either.

“Is this the Clinic?”

- boy… did I really want to play with that one…

“Let me talk to Lashawna!”

Me: She charges by the minute, can I have your credit card number?

There are the things I wish I said… Maybe when I get to the day I am quitting IT support forever, those things will actually be said…

I am slowly getting used to being in this cramped little desk, although I am noticing that my neck hurts more sitting here. I am thinking about decorating with light strips and such. I was more professional in my decoration last time. This time I want to be eclectic.

Maybe a stop by Spencers will help. I want some neon to go in my overhead bin. Plants would be nice too… Hmm… I wonder if I can fit a fish bowl in here somewhere…

Well, back to work…

Look around, leaves are brown, and the sky…

Isn’t quite a hazy shade of winter, but it seems so in this office.

They got the new build out on the call center, and I have been given this little desk. Now mind you, I am not complaining too much, as that most everyone has had this issue for a long time, but it’s still depressing.

They opened up the call center so you can see the windows and see sunlight, but it doesn’t really help today, because it’s raining. On top of it all, there is a mobile webcam that now watches over us, big brother style. I am waiting for the shock studs that will be added to our chairs to help our productivity.

It’s not all as bad as that, I am just grumpy because I feel cooped in and claustrophobic, and I can’t fit all my stuff at this new desk. If I shift my feet wrong, I unplug somthing critical under my desk, and it makes me feel very uncomfortable and cramped and depressed. I just wish I could do something for a living that I like, because this really stinks.

Otherwise, this weekend was interesting to say the least. Phoenix and I went out and saw Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, which was a stitch. I loved it.
We then went to Martins for a nice stint of drinking Sake and playing silly word guess games. We had a great time. Sunday Phoenix and I had a nice relaxing day where we really didn’t get anything done. It was very nice.

Now, I need a nap.

Work Sucks

Today has been a particularly frustrating day at work.

On top of having to remove everything from my desk, so on Monday I can move to a smaller cubicle, someone gave out stupid pills to people today and it has been very difficult to keep my temper about me today. It is so hard to be patient when your head wants to explode. It’s a terrible feeling...On top of it all, I have to be nice, when I would rather tell the person on the other end of the phone to just give it up now and drop out of school, because their basic computer skills are so poor that they are never going to make it to graduation.

*sigh*

I can’t wait to go home and get out of this place today and see my Phoenix.
I need a rest.

On other news, saw Hero last night, and the visuals made me shake and tear up. It was so beautiful. The use of colors was amazing. I was astounded. Very powerful.

Another song from long ago

By some guy called Lord Aegid... Somewhere in Meridies

Wert there were someone
To bring me cool water
Sweet Adam’s ale, from the fjord near to hand
Wert there a priest to pray me to heaven,
And tell me my Lady is safely away

Fly Lady Fly, to Castle Caernaven
Where the welsh archers bide
And my kin still be strong
Fly! Lady fly! For the storms come upon ya
Think well of the laddie whose blood bought you time

My faithful war Stallion,
Stands O’re me protective
To fend off the ravens and Sasanach thieves
No more to hunting, or charging to battle
This service you render is the last that I’ll need

Fly! Lady Fly! To Castle Caernaven
Where the welsh archers bide
And my kin still be strong
Fly Lady! Fly, for the storms come apon ya
Think well of the laddie whose life bought you time

Wert there were someone
To bring me cool water
Sweet Adam’s ale, from the fjord near to hand…

Ivan the not so terrible becuase it missed us...

Well, yesterdays practice at Martin’s was an absolute blast. I think I had more fun fighting then I have in quite a while. Phoenix even did well when she got into armor, she is such a scrapper when she gets her armor on, and it’s so cute!

Otherwise, not much is going on. Got Phoenix her bike last week, and this weekend we are going to bike the econ trail or something. I need some time to work on some more leather projects (I need to make more pouches and some armor).

Ivan, thank goodness is not coming here. I feel sorry for those who are getting hit, but I don’t think we need another Cat 4 or 5 in Florida right now. Funny headline I saw on The Drudge Report. “'10,000 BODY BAGS READIED, 50,000 COULD DIE IN DIRECT HIT'...”

Referring to Ivan hitting New Orleans…

Please… Give me a break.

Drudging up a song from the recesses of my memory

Had a request for a song that I used to sing long ago. Took awhile to re-remember it all. :

By Master Veloja (?) Valoja (?) heck, I cant remember the spelling... stupid SCA names...

On Guard
Home hearth and light are far away,
While I am on guard
Women dance elsewhere and their children play
While I am on guard
Far is my city and my native home
Where the breezes I remember blow
Distant is the life I had known…

Our King has commanded so here I remain
To watch here on guard
In this small castle that guards his domain
We watch here on guard
We are a few men who have sworn here to stand
And warn our lord if someone invades his land
And hold them off here for as long as we can…

Back at home, my fair lady waits
While I am on guard
Manys the time I will recall her face
While I am on guard
Where there were two there is now only one
And so she must manage our affairs alone
And worry and watch, until I come home…

Armed foeman gather, and not far away
While I am on guard
War may be distant, or come today
While I am on guard
We’ve readied our arrows, and sharpened our swords
Though we are but few against their mighty horde
But I think we can stop them and still warn our lord…

I cannot complain for now I am back
No longer on guard
Now I enjoy all those things I did lack
While I was on guard
My friends, my companions, warmth and light come my way
I will celebrate gladly, but there’s one thing I’ll say
Pray remember those who guard us today
For home hearth and light are far away
For those who stand guard…

Ivan the worriesome

Another week, another storm…

Well, not much has gone on this past week. Went to Martin’s house to fight on Tuesday, but no fighting was to be had.
Finally got some sleep last night, as to the fact that we didn’t go anywhere and went to bed early. So overall this week has been quite dull.
Since Crown was cancelled due to rain (and another event cancelled this next weekend due to flooding) they are re-scheduling crown for Oct. 9th.
Today I get to pick up Phoenix’s new bike I ordered her for her birthday, (whoo hoo!) so maybe we will go riding tonight! God I hope Ivan doesnt hit us. I love storms, but this is getting a little silly.

Damn.

Well, here I am at work…

So much for the power going. The good thing is that it’s Labor Day, so no one is calling in, yet.

Overall Frances has not really caused too much damage from what I have seen. Coming to work, I saw a couple of streets with small trees down, but for the most part, the things that would come down, already have. The oak tree in the back yard is fine, the house is fine. I couldn’t get much sleep though through the storm though, so I am a bit pooped.

The really good news is that we lasted through it without the power going out. Woo hoo!

In the teeth of the storm

But at least the teeth are not very sharp. This is not half as bad as Charley, but its lasted all night thus far. Wind is blowing up to about 40 - 50 mph at times, enough that there is a constant rumble in the distance. I am still worried about power going out because every once and awhile we get a power flicker and hear a distant transformer fuse blow out. On the coast, they are getting hit a bit harder, the news keeps saying small boats keep washing ashore. I would think anyone in their right mind with a small boat would have pulled it out of the water. I think the worst is to come, but I don't think it will be that bad. If only it will extend till Monday, then I can get labor day off!

Fizzle... sputter... fizzle

Well, according to NOAA, the Hurricane will fizzle out to a tropical storm by the time it gets to us . That still means we will be getting a lot of rain and such, but it also means that the tree in the back yard won’t fall, and likely we will still have power. We spent a bunch of money on non-perishable food and such, and it looks like we will not need it… so maybe it will be saved for Events and fishing trips. However, it could strengthen, then turn and hit us at the last minute, so you never know…

There is a proto plan forming between Phoenix and I to go and get some shots from the beach when the outer rain bands come in. Depending on traffic I think. Saturday is supposed to be a nice day now after all.

All hands on deck! (again)

This may be the last entry again for a bit. So I better get in what has been going on and what is going to be happening.

I have not been able to update the blog because it has been so busy here at work. I can’t wait till peak is over next month.

Frances is bearing down on us, and it is likely going to be worse then Charlie. They are expecting that we are going to get winds at least as hard as Charlie by the time it gets here, but for a much longer period of time. So, I am trying to prepare for the worse. Worse case scenario is that debris takes out some of my windows, and the tree in the back yard falls on my house, and the power goes out for a week or two. Soooo, I am going to tape the windows on the storm side, and line the screens with plastic. I am also trying to get everything in the back room in some sort of container that is water resistant in case the tree falls on the Florida room. We are putting water in the freezer so we have block ice for the food, and we are shopping tonight for non perishable food for a week and other supplies (and see if we can get some dry ice that may last into next week). I expect what will actually happen is that we will be fine, but we will lose power for another week or perhaps two. I think I am going to order some battery powered fans. This is crazy-nuts.

Crown is cancelled… go fig. Sort of disappointing, because Forgal was supposed to be coming to town. Oh well, maybe next month.

SUPRISE!!!!!

Hehehehehe!

Little does my Phoenix know, but tonight we have a surprise party planned for her birthday! We have no power at home, so she can’t see this! Hooohahahahaha!

Well, yesterday we went out to Kobe Japanese Steakhouse and did the whole hibachi thing with the drinks in little statues and such. She had never been to one, and it was a blast. We stuffed ourselves silly, and then they came out with a small birthday cake and sang the Japanese version of happy birthday and hit their gongs a lot, then took a picture. It was quite a lot of fun, which was good because she was feeling blue about no one remembering her birthday. Wow wait till tonight.

So tonight I am going to blindfold her when we get into the car, and take her to Martin and Elizabeth’s house, where we are going to have a big birthday party for her! Woo hoo!
I can’t wait! She is going to be soooo surprised!

Now if the Orlando Utility Commission would just surprise me and get our power fixed, I would be happy too!

I did not take this one, but here is the leading storm band coming into Orlando Posted by Hello

Still whistling in the dark

Still no power and it really stinks. Really it does. Despite cleaning out the freezer with Clorox, it smells terrible.

Still many communities around Orlando are without power, and some now are getting water alerts, where the residents need to start boiling their water. The trend I have noticed is that it’s the less affluent parts of town that are not getting the help as fast, as compared to the richer side of town. Go fig.

I must admit, the lack of sleep, and the annoyance of not having power has frazzled my nerves. I know there are people out there who are much worse off, but I’m tired and cranky.

Well this weekends plan really depends on what happens with the electricity. If there is none, we can’t leave the birds to broil, so it will be hanging around the house, or short trips out to local sites. Maybe if I can get Phoenix her bike this week, we will go out riding.

I really want to put the pictures up, but I need power! Oy!

Tuesday, August 17, 2004

Whistling in the dark, whistling in the dark

Yet another day without power. I can’t put up the storm pictures without power!

Yesterday, Phoenix and I discovered a new video game… Quest for Ice.

And we sucked at it. The penalty- everything in our freezer is now spoiled and in the trash, and we now live on fruits and canned food… and ramen…*sigh* Its depressing!
But today Phoenix has proved her skill and got us three bags of ice today. I guess we’ll put the canned drinks and fruit in the cooler.
Thanks to Martin and Elizabeth for letting me come and take a nice warm shower. It was way spiff.

I like storms, but I am discovering I really don’t like not having power in Florida. A fan would be a wonderful thing. I think I will be more prepared next time. Maybe get me a generator.

On another note, Happy Birthday Dad! I hope you have many more!

A Maze of Streets

The next day, we awoke and decided at some point that we needed to drive out to see if Phoenix’s work (the bird store) was still there. We went outside to find many trees down in the neighborhood, our neighbors back porch ripped to shreds, roofs stripped bare of their shingles in patches. But this was not to be the worst. When we saw the main streets of our powerless city (no traffic lights which made going slow) it was amazing. Besides the normal trees and telephone poles being either damaged, or laying on the road, huge billboards (you know, the one being held up by huge thick steel girders) were bent or snapped and completely collapsed. I saw one of these that had collapsed on a delivery truck. Most businesses had some sort of minor damage, such as awnings ripped and such, but occasionally one would see a business that was half collapsed. We went on our merry way to the bird store, and took our traditional route, which goes down various back ways to get there, as it is the fastest. We found that we had entered a maze. Almost every road we went down was blocked by fallen trees. We got completely turned around at one point, but we managed to find a main road and got to the store, to meet some of Phoenix’s co-workers who were doing the same thing. The one positive aspect of this is that there is an avocado tree in the back of the store, and we collected about 12 avocados that had been blown off the tree, so at least we got something out of the trip.

At some point Sat. we also decided to go visit Martin, as that we could not seem to dial out, on the cell, and when we got there, a thunderstorm came through. Talk about adding insult to injury! On top of that it wasn’t your average thunderstorm, it was one of those blowing, crashing, step outside and it feels like a waterfall type storm. We got there, and they weren’t home! Oy!

So, we decided to go see a movie (all the malls were fine and open, go fig) and saw alien vs. predator. Nice effects well worth seeing for that, but don’t bother with the plot.

Got home, lit up candles and enjoyed the rest of the night relaxing with my Phoenix.

Charley comes to visit

Sorry about the no updates. The power went out, and is still out as we speak at my house.

Wow what a storm. We got the bird room all sealed up, and hunkered down on the living room couch and watched the storm. The winds started to pick up gradually as the center of the storm got closer and closer. At one point we started to see green flashes of light, which at first I thought was lightning, but could not hear the thunder associated with them. Then I realized, as it happened at the edge of our street, it was transformer fuses blowing. After three flashes came from the end of the street (each have three fuses as far as I know) out went the power.
The wind continued to increase in the darkness, only going from east to west thankfully (the stuff in the carport would have been blown everywhere otherwise) and the huge live oak tree across the street began falling apart. The wind was fairly constant, but a huge gust would come that was frightening to watch. Each gust you could hear coming before it hit like a roar. The wind almost seemed desperate. You could hear the POP! CRACK! of branches falling off the trees that ended up being as large as 2-3 foot in diameter. One of them fell on the neighbor’s car and crushed its rear end and rear window. This went on for quite some time and the rain came down in sheets. Suddenly announcing itself before hand with the sound of a freight train about to crash on us, one final gust blew that seemed to want to rip everything from its foundations and the world strained to stay in place.

Then it was over.

We were in the eye of the storm.

The rain and wind came back after that, but it seemed paltry. A mere 30 mph wind that paled to what turned out to be 100 mph gusts we were getting.

We shined the flashlight to the road to see what we could see, but, outside of debris in the road, it was too dark to see much. And we went to bed…

And another Posted by Hello

Here are a couple of pics of the second band of storms... Posted by Hello

The first wave hits

Well, the first wave of storms came through rather quicky, becoming very dark and raining hard. There was thunder in the distance that was a continual rumble for about 15 minutes. Very cool... Charlie's track has moved and is now heading right for us.

Look at the glass, you can see that it has fell!

So we wish that you would hurry up and strike! Strike the bell!

All hands on deck! Baton down the hatches! Pull in the mainsail!

Ok, not that bad, but in preparation for Charlie, I have tried to move all the stuff in the carport so it wont blow away. Friends from Tampa are staying here in Orlando (at Martin's), and I hope to get some good pictures, but I doubt it will be any more spectacular then a good thunder storm when it gets here, but we will see.
The event scheduled for this weekend is still going... And good luck to them because I don't think they will have many attendees. All the 2 million folks who left Tampa are going to want to come back tomorrow, and the site is low lying on top of it all. I have a better idea, why not hold the event in Lake Eola...
Otherwise, I have been sick since yesterday and fairly miserable taking doses of nightquil, making me spaced out and miserable. So I took advantage of the time and re formatted my computer (Its an HP and it sucks ass, the generic next to it has 1/2 the processing speed and is 2x as fast)
Well, I will post Hurricane pictures as it happens!

Attack of the Corporate Clones

It's hard writing for the past few days because of the ramp up for the peak this semester.

But the big news is:

I cut my hair!

Yes, I now look the part of the corporate clone that I am. But thus far everyone seems to like it. I now look like I’m 20 and still wet behind the ears. *sigh*

At least it’s easier to wash my hair now.

Fighter Practice at Martin’s tonight. I can’t wait!

MY WAR - Fear And Loathing In Iraq: AL QAEDA

MY WAR - Fear And Loathing In Iraq: AL QAEDA

More follow up on that attack from yesterday.

What confuses me is why this has gotten almost no coverage in the news?

One of my co-workers is convinced that its becuase the media thinks this wouldn't make Bush look bad, so they have ignored it.
But if you follow that logic, this would be a great story to put on spin. The media could take the tack that our troops are fighting the good fight, and that Bush's incompetancy let Al-Qaeda attack
them.

I dont know... Just Crazy...

4...3...2...1... Earth Below us, drifting, falling...

Woke up this morning at 2am to see the messenger launch, and I think it was well worth it. The alarm went off and I bounced out of bed, much to Phoenix’s chagrin, who did not react with as much excitement from being forced out of her slumber in the middle of the night. I looked outside and saw the moon, so it was clear, and went to the launch website just to make sure nothing else had happened to cancel the launch. Much to my relief, it was on! I dragged poor Phoenix outside to the street, and was somewhat bummed because there was some cloud cover. After a couple of minutes, when I was sure that it should have gone off, I thought that there were too many clouds in the way. To my surprise, right when I was turning to go, there it was, like a bright flare going off in the distance burning though the slight haze that was in the sky. Phoenix and I watched as it got smaller and smaller and finally died away. Then went back to bed.

I love launches. Even from 40 miles away they inspire me.

Not much time to write today, so I will be quick…

Friday Phoenix and I watched the Manchurian Candidate and it was a good movie… made me feel really creeped out at the end. Sea World was a lot of fun on Saturday. Watched Shamu (or whatever the whale is really called) go through the typical show stuff, which I have to say is very entertaining if you are in the splash zone (which we were) The dolphin show was the same way. Much more interesting being in the splash zone. Finally got to go on the Atlantis ride, and got wet on that one too. The funny part was the fact I forgot to mention to Phoenix that the big plunge into the water was not the end of the ride. She smacked me after we rocketed around the end part of the ride. To tell the truth, I forgot that there was more. By that time we were too tired to do much anything else and went home and zonked.
Sunday, well we cleaned the bird cages and had a pleasant day just laying around the house and talking and getting some good alone time in with my favorite bird.

Woke up at 2am this morning to see if the launch (messenger) was going to happen, looked out the window and saw clouds and said screw it (and it was canceled). Maybe it will launch tonight, but I doubt it. It’s supposed to rain all day because of T.S. Alex drawing moisture from the gulf, so I suspect it will not be clear to either see from Orlando, or it might not go because of weather.

*sigh* pictures later

al Qaeda VIP captured, as predicted

Top al Qaeda VIP captured

As predicted before. There were several news articles saying that the Bush administration was pushing Pakistan to capture either Osama or another al-Qaeda VIP in or around the DNC in boston, to draw off attention.

NEW DARWIN AWARDS 2004!

Genocide

Weekend plans…

Sunday is kingdom war practice, and I do want to go this time. I want to get my new chest plate done before hand. So Saturday may be a quick trip to Sea World in the morning, and spend the rest of the day cleaning out the bird cages and working on armor.

However blowing it all off to go fishing would be very nice.

Well, the U.S., as is usual, is finally calling what’s going on in the Sudan genocide, and is slowly gearing up the U.N. to condemn it. Like that’s going to do anything in the short term, or save lives. The reports from there are terrifying, people getting slaughtered, women and children raped while the Arab women sing in support if it while it happens. Very sad situation if you ask me, to bad Bush didn’t do any “pre-emptive” measures there…

*sigh*

Todays moment of Zen. Posted by Hello

Rain... go fig.

No practice last night because of rain, so it’s been rescheduled for Thursday. At least it gives me time to make a new gorget, because I am forsaking my coif now. I really really like my new helmet. The only problem is that it’s so nice, I need the rest of my armor to be nice to go with it. God I’m so vain at times.

Watched The Daily show with Jon Stewart at the DNC last night, and rolled around laughing. I can’t wait to see it tonight.

Today is another virus day. My Doom O. This was fluttering about on Friday and Monday, but people are annoying about it today. They all call in and want to read me the email. After about two words, I repeat it back to them from memory. Then they want to blame me because “Well, it came from you, so of course I opened the attachment”. *sigh* Morons. Ok, maybe not morons, just hiding under a rock because it’s been in the news, and in there have been emails sent warning about this issue.

Ugh, enough for now. More news as it happens.

Why cheesecake?

When I open my blog, up at the top is the annoying google ad, that is supposedly targeted at the blog's content to sell stuff. It wants to sell me cheesecake. Why cheesecake? Now mind you I love cheesecake (especially vanilla bean cheesecake, with lots of real whip cream), but what possesses google to advertise cheesecake on my blog? Are you getting the same thing? Let me know, I am curious!

MY WAR - Fear And Loathing In Iraq

MY WAR - Fear And Loathing In Iraq This is a great war blog from Iraq. Gives some good perspective.

We'll Rant and we'll roar...

Well, the DNC is in full spring, and boy I am so excited----- NOT!

Rant alert!

I wish my party would be a little more exciting. Or make a platform that was a little more what I want to see, but I think that would be difficult. Pro – Choice, Pro-Gun, Pro-Environment, Anti-oil, Pro-gay marriage (geeze man, can’t government just leave these folks alone?), Pro- space exploration, Pro-stem cell research, Pro-genetic mods (but with careful regulation on environmental effects),  Pro-corporate regulation, Pro-Political Funding reform, Anti – whaling, Anti – Bush, pro-fiscal responsibility, pro- getting our troops home from Iraq, etc…

And well the only thing I see from the democrats these days is the Anti – Bush part, for certain. I swear, I like some of the republican ideals, like some of what John McCain has to say, but my God, the Bush white house is crazy! *sigh* I think I am more anti-neo conservative the anti Republican. If you look at it in a certain light, Bush is the most Liberal president we have had in quite some time. Here is the definition of Conservatism out of Webster’s dictionary:

a : a disposition in politics to preserve what is established b : a political philosophy based on tradition and social stability, stressing established institutions, and preferring gradual development to abrupt change

So, what part of this does Bush Jr do? Pre-emptive military strikes are certainly not a conservative way of thinking, containment is. The patriot act is certainly not “preserving” our rights as citizens. He wants to change Social Security, a huge established institution. Environmental protection has been a stressed since Nixon, (a Republican by the way) and he has done more to dismantle environmental regulation then any president this century! Ok, ok… deceiving the public is certainly a well established institution, so in that way, I’ll give him points. So is being owned by corporate interests.

Bush – Right wing Liberal…

Enough of ranting…

I am all ready for practice tonight. I got my new helmet all padded up, and took the chain off, and it is way spiff. It’s so light I am not going to know what to do with myself! And as soon as I get the scale done, I am going to have quite the spiff harness. I hope I can get it done by the next event. That and get in shape to kick some tail.

Well, back to work for me…

Need me some links

Hey, I am going to see if I can put some blog links on my side bar here. If you read me, and you would like to be posted, please leave your addy in the comments section ------ -----------------------------------------------------V-here-V.

And another weekend bites the dust.

Go see the Bourne Supremacy. You’ll like it. It is even better then the first movie.

Well, the wheel spins round, and I’m interested in astrology again. Go fig.

Got the house cleaned this weekend (well Phoenix got the house cleaned… I cleaned the birds room) , went to Martian’s daughter’s birthday party.

That’s about at really. More as it happens.

Its Friday!

It’s Friday! Yes it’s Friday!

Hootie hoo!!!!!

And it’s again too busy here at work to be Friday. People need to not worry so much on Friday and leave it till Monday!

But it’s all good. Soon I will be out of here and into the arms of my lady love. Tonight, I think we will go see the Bourne Supremacy. I loved the Bourne Identity, and I have high hopes for this one as well. As far as this weekend is concerned, we are going to do some house cleanup, and I think we are going to check out the Sanford flea market again. The Sanford flea market is interesting, but every time we go, we kind of haphazardly meander, which is very much against my shopping grain. This time, Phoenix suggested we do a systematic search of the place, covering every single spot. Whoo hoo! Says I!

As far as the house clean up is concerned, I am hoping to find more interesting things to sell on ebay for the great Hawaii trip, and finish my scale armor and pad my helmet. Not to mention clearing up the slow shower drain problem, mop the floors, and maybe even clean out my closet.

Or a nice mid day nap might be in order too.

Sunday we have gotten an invite to go to the Dolphin Hotel at Disney for drinks. I like that idea too!!!

Walking in the moonlight

Last night, after putting the birds to bed, Phoenix and I went out to Lake Eola and walked arm in arm around the lake. Of all the cities I have lived in, I must admit that Orlando’s downtown area is really one of the best. Its clean, there are a lot of cool clubs, restaurants and shops to go in, and the town is really fairly pretty. Well, as I said, we walked around the lake arm in arm and taking pictures along the way of the fountain, the swans, and the impromptu drum session that was going on in one corner of the park. I hope to post them tonight. I like Orlando. I really do. The only part I don’t like is all the pan handlers in town, but it is an American city, that is to be expected.
It was good to be with Phoenix and see her smile. There are few things that make me happy in this world, and that is one of them. We walked around town a bit and stopped by the Public Library, where they have a light sculpture where you can hit buttons and make the lights light up and musical tones ring. If you hit the right combination, the whole thing freaks out and flashes and sings and makes quite a spectacle. I love it. So did Phoenix, smiling like a little girl and clapping when it happens. It is funny how such simple little things can make you happy. Watching her experience something new (like that), when her eyes light up and she smiles, it almost makes me cry with joy.
The birds are doing fine. Not much to say about them really. Zora has taken a taste for milk and keeps trying to hijack it from my morning cereal (at the same time Addicus tries to grab the cereal itself). Everyone is getting very talkative to each other, but the actual verbalization of human words is way outnumbered by chirps and whistles and cell phone impersonations. Oh yea, I forgot. Addicus has taken to humping your hand… figures, the one we don’t want to breed is the most randy.

Paranoia...

Ok, who is looking at my blog from National Louis? Sometime close to midnight last night went through NL’s Citrix server and looked at my blog through it. Likely my bet is someone did it from work, but why go through Citrix? Someone is making me paranoid!

For Today's Amusement: The Chewbacca Defense

Johnnie Cochran:

Ladies and gentlemen of the supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider: (pulling down a diagram of Chewie) this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk, but Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now, think about that. That does not make sense! (jury looks shocked)
Why would a Wookiee -- an eight foot tall Wookiee -- want to live on Endor with a bunch of two foot tall Ewoks? That does not make sense!
But more importantly, you have to ask yourself: what does that have to do with this case? (calmly) Nothing. Ladies and gentlemen, it has nothing to do with this case! It does not make sense!
Look at me, I'm a lawyer defending a major record company, and I'm talkin' about Chewbacca. Does that make sense? Ladies and gentlemen, I am not making any sense. None of this makes sense.
And so you have to remember, when you're in that jury room deliberating and conjugating the Emancipation Proclamation... does it make sense? No! Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, it does not make sense.
It does not make sense. If Chewbacca does not make sense, you must acquit!
(pulling a monkey out of his pocket) Here, look at the monkey. Look at the silly monkey! (one of the juror's heads explodes)

Well, some good news and bad news.

First the bad. Today it was brought to my attention that one of the desktop support managers at one of the schools we serve was unhappy that I sent in a ticket without enough detail:
(user)Can’t get computer to start up, IT takes forever to boot, then hangs up.

The desktop manager at the school could not decipher this simple sentence fragment. Now I will admit I made a typo capitalizing both letters in “it”, which this person interpreted that there is something wrong with the IT dept. Then in his infinite wisdom, he interpreted the last part was that the modem hangs up, instead of the computer locking up. I know this individual is getting paid more then I am, again convincing me that with exceptions (like my boss Todd, my God, that guy knows everything {and I am not brown nosing here, he never reads this blog}) that the less you actually know about what you are doing in IT, the higher position you are likely to hold.
The good news is that I took more calls then everyone else here in June. Go me! Don’t applaud, just throw money.

Well, its back to surfing. Got to find a funny picture for today.

Sprint Sucks!

You know, Sprint sucks…

We have been having internet connectivity issues here at work since 6pm yesterday, and our admins have been talking to sprint since it started. Only now (10am) has Sprint admitted that there is something wrong on their end, and its effecting things in a large area *sigh*. There is a reason I dropped their cell service. Oh look, its back up! Better post this before it goes down again!

Picture of the day: Karate Cat! Posted by Hello

Bagle Pathology

Well, today is Bagle virus day. It seems there is another virus in the wild affecting computers, making my life more difficult. I do wish they would come up with more spectacular names for virii, like say, “silicon death adder”, or say “Microsoftbane”. It would be better then something I want to spread cream cheese or lox on. Well yesterday, I had more hits to this silly blog then I have had in a while (12 hits yesterday!), and I would like to thank all of you who read my weblog for making this such a wonderful success (sniff… sniff…) I love you guys!

There is another update on “how to get to Niall’s blog”. Another anonymous user has blundered their way onto the site by going through MSN search and inputting “armor plated catfish pictures florida”. I don’t know why, but my blog has gotten quite a bit of attention in the search engines, many times putting me on the first page for some really strange searches. Well, I guess I can’t complain.

Well, what is on the agenda for this week? I hope to actually start posting some songs with some sound bytes connected to them (I think I will start with Peasant Knight), fighter practice tonight, and need to determine what to do this weekend. Anyone have any suggestions? Put it in the comments section below!

Other strange searches

It continues to amuse me how people use search engines to get to my website. This weekend I got two interesting hits from google, the first being "replacement chinstrap talker" and the other "CrossBows Saxons Authur".

Well, I see someone else may have been incredulous to the fact they gave the Saxons (or fur clad barbarians, that somewhat resembled nordic mongols) crossbows in the 5th C. , in the new King Arthor movie...

Does this sound familiar?

Doing some catching!

Well, this weekend was a lot of fun, till Sunday arrived.

Phoenix and I decided to try a new spot out to go catching (yes this time it was catching, not just fishing), at the Canaveral National Seashore, and wow! What a great beach! Not an amazing amount of people there, nice weather, nice beach, nice waves, very cool. We woke up stupid early, and got out there by about 7:30am and caught a good picture of the sun over the water. We planted our poles and chairs, dug up some sand fleas and a few minnows with the cast net, and proceeded to get a nice tan and enjoy the day. We caught 3 whiting and a catfish during the day, but the bad news was that when we took a lunch break, we went to Subway (did I mention that Phoenix is getting addicted to subway), and our tackle box was either lost or stolen, which was a bummer, but we had enough to keep fishing, and we went out had had fun playing in the waves (the water was amazingly nice and cool). Rain came into the picture right after lunch, and poured all around us, but did not hit us directly. It was amazing, you could see the launch towers from Canaveral, but when the rain came, one of them disappeared! But we were blessed with good weather, and caught 4 fish, three whiting and one catfish. I can’t wait to go again next time!

Sunday on the other hand was miserable. Somehow my back got out of whack on Saturday, and I was in pain and bed bound on Sunday. I got all drugged up, which was almost as bad as the pain, and had pretty much a terrible day. Phoenix was a darling and helped me through the day and cleaned up after the birds all on her own.   Well on to the pictures!

Here is the look over the water at about 8am or so. It was absolutely wonderful! Posted by Hello
